San Antonio, Texas – The city is experiencing a blast from the past with the opening of its first "Free Blockbuster," a unique community initiative located within the My Weekend World Events Center on McCarty Road. This new establishment aims to rekindle the joy of physical media and movie nights, operating on a simple "take a movie, leave a movie" concept. Visitors can borrow DVDs or VHS tapes and are encouraged to contribute their own to the collection, fostering a shared cinematic experience. Michael Strickland, owner of the Weekend World Events Center, expressed enthusiasm for the project. "It's just an awesome opportunity to relive that nostalgia," Strickland stated, highlighting the community's positive reception. "The community's really come together about it, and that's great for us because we're just trying to build the network and draw attention to this community center we're building here." The Free Blockbuster is part of a larger hub that also features a retro 90s toy store, a recording studio, and a vendor village. Future plans include the opening of "Minimax: The World's Smallest Movie Theater," which aims to set a Guinness World Record. This multi-faceted center seeks to create a vibrant community space centered around entertainment and shared experiences.
