Brazilian Inventor Creates Amphibious Wheelchair, Opening Beaches to All
Guarujá, Brazil - A 72-year-old engineer, Armando Fantini, has revolutionized beach access for wheelchair users with his innovative amphibious wheelchair. The "Anfíbia," as it's called, is made of lightweight aluminum and features four buoyant pontoons, allowing users to navigate both sand and sea. Fantini explains, "The idea for the amphibious chair came from my experience with the ecological shower. I spent 10 years seeing people with disabilities unable to enjoy the ocean." The chair, which costs around R$14,000, has undergone rigorous testing at the HC - USP Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, proving its safety and functionality. Its success is a testament to the power of inclusive design and the determination to overcome barriers to accessibility. The Anfíbia is more than a chair; it's a symbol of hope and freedom for those who once felt excluded from the joys of the beach.
