Brazilian Baby Born with IUD Attached to Back, Remains Healthy
A baby born in Brazil has captured global attention after he was delivered with an intrauterine device (IUD) attached to his back. The unusual event occurred in early May in the Distrito Federal. The baby, Bernardo, is completely healthy, according to his mother and the doctor who delivered him. Dr. Rafaela Frota, the attending physician, shared a photo on social media showing the IUD attached to Bernardo's back. She confirmed that the device did not pierce his skin. Gynecologist Marcela Fiadeiro explained to g1 that this is an extremely rare occurrence, with only about two out of every thousand pregnancies involving hormonal IUDs resulting in a similar situation. "It's truly remarkable that Bernardo is perfectly healthy," said Dr. Frota. The story highlights the effectiveness of IUDs as a contraceptive method, even in the face of such an unusual circumstance.
