Volunteers Guide Hundreds of Baby Sea Turtles to Safety on World Turtle Day

On May 23rd, World Turtle Day, volunteers in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, organized a heartwarming event to help endangered sea turtle hatchlings reach the ocean. These tiny creatures, only a few centimeters long, instinctively follow the moon's reflection on the water to find their way. However, the bright lights from beachside establishments often confuse them, leading many to perish. "The artificial lights disorient them, causing them to go the wrong way," explained one volunteer. The volunteers carefully collect the hatchlings and create a safe path to the sea, ensuring their survival. This event is not only a conservation effort but also an educational experience, teaching the public about the importance of protecting sea turtles and their fragile ecosystem. The dedication of these volunteers offers a beacon of hope for the future of these critically endangered creatures.
