Granddaughter Embezzles R$200,000 from 87-Year-Old Grandfather in Brazil
Elderly Man's R$200,000 Embezzled by Granddaughter in Brazil Ponta Grossa, Parana, Brazil – An 87-year-old man in Ponta Grossa, Parana, has become a victim of a shocking betrayal. His 35-year-old granddaughter embezzled approximately R$200,000 from him over a period of three years. The crime came to light when the IPVA (annual property tax) on the grandfather's vehicle went unpaid for three years, despite his regular payments to his granddaughter for this purpose. The grandfather, visibly distraught, shared his feelings in an interview, stating: “It hurts my heart, almost to the point of death. I entrusted everything to her, believing she was a good person, and she had the audacity to steal like this. This is theft. I worked since I was a child, never took a dime from anyone.” His son, alerted by the overdue IPVA, investigated and discovered a series of unauthorized transfers from his father's account to his granddaughter's personal account. He stated: "I spoke with the bank manager. He looked at the account and said, 'There's no money here.' Then he told me, 'Your father received a precatório of R$123,000, and there are some transfers.' I said, 'What transfers?' I obtained the statements and discovered everything. I was surprised." The granddaughter's lawyer maintains his client's innocence, claiming the situation is not as the police report describes. He added that she voluntarily contributed to her grandfather's care and intends to reimburse the money. The granddaughter was released and is awaiting trial. This case serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of elderly individuals to financial exploitation. The emotional distress caused by such betrayal is immeasurable, highlighting the importance of financial vigilance and support networks for the elderly.
