Recife Mother's Plea for Justice: Five Years After Miguel's Death
Five years after the tragic death of five-year-old Miguel Otávio Santana da Silva, his mother, Mirtes Renata Santana, led a poignant demonstration in Recife, Brazil, demanding justice. The event marked the anniversary of Miguel's fall from the ninth floor of a luxury apartment building. The case has drawn national attention due to the involvement of Sari Corte Real, Miguel's caretaker, who is a former first lady of Tamandaré. Corte Real was initially sentenced to eight years and six months in prison for leaving Miguel unattended in the elevator, but this was later reduced to seven years. Mirtes Santana's emotional plea at the demonstration highlighted the ongoing struggle for justice, stating, "I want to know who will be held accountable for the life of my child." The march concluded at the Palace of Justice, symbolizing the family's continued pursuit of justice within the legal system.
