Galician Beach Hosts Thrilling Veteran Lifeguard Championship
Veteran Lifeguards Compete in Galicia's National Championship Sanxenxo, Galicia, Spain – This past weekend, Silgar beach hosted the Spanish Master Championship for veteran lifeguards. Nearly 300 participants from ten Spanish regions, with Galicians making up 25% of the competitors, took part in the event. The competition included nine events, ranging from water-based activities like kayaking and swimming to beach-based races. Competitors showed impressive physical fitness and a strong competitive spirit, regardless of their age, which is the only requirement for participation (over 30 years old). "I'm a mother of three athletes, and I decided with some friends to get into this sport, which is very beautiful, because before I didn't do anything and now I encourage people to participate," said one competitor from Sada. Another participant, a 72-year-old man, shared, "I competed in Australia for almost twenty years; I was a surfer and a swimmer." The championship, organized by the Spanish and Galician lifeguard federations, celebrates the commitment to physical activity and competitive spirit of these veteran athletes. The event's success underscores the enduring appeal of sport and the importance of community involvement in maintaining an active lifestyle.
