Galicia Offers Tax Break on School Supplies
Galicia Announces Tax Break for Textbook Purchases Galicia's regional government, the Xunta, has introduced a new tax deduction designed to ease the financial burden of purchasing school supplies for families. This measure, approved on Monday, will allow families with annual incomes between €10,000 and €30,000, who do not receive other aid from the Xunta, to deduct 15% of their expenses on textbooks and school materials, up to a maximum of €105 per student. The initiative is expected to benefit around 60,000 students. "This is a significant step in supporting families," said Xunta President Alfonso Rueda, at a press conference. "We want to make education more accessible for everyone." The Education Minister, Román Rodríguez, added that families should keep their receipts for purchases made between July 1st and December 31st, 2025 to claim the deduction. The total cost of the program is estimated at €6.3 million. The measure is a welcome addition to existing free tuition programs in Galicia, further demonstrating the government's commitment to education and family support. This initiative is part of the 2026 budget support law.
