Six Jailed in Major Ourense Anti-Drug Operation
Ourense, Spain – In a significant blow to drug trafficking in the city of Ourense, six individuals have been remanded in custody following a large-scale police operation known as Operation Copernicus. The operation, which took place earlier this week, involved more than 100 officers from the National Police and resulted in the arrest of eight suspects. According to sources from the High Court of Justice of Galicia (TSXG), six of the suspects have been sent to prison, while two were released after appearing before a judge. "The judge ordered the provisional imprisonment, without bail, of six of the eight detainees," stated a TSXG spokesperson. The operation also led to the seizure of approximately 5 kilograms of drugs, 16,000 euros in cash, and other related items. The police action took place amidst heightened community tension in the Covadonga neighborhood, where residents had reported increased incidents of theft and robbery in recent weeks. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, commented, "We're relieved that the police took action, but we've been living in fear for too long." The successful operation serves as a positive step towards improving security and addressing the concerns of the Ourense community.
