Aphids will stay clear from plants when 2-ingredient solution is sprayed
Aphids can be pesky little insects to deal with, as they suck the sap out of your garden plants. Garden designer Ish shared a simple solution to deal…
In a recent online video, gardening enthusiast Ish shared effective, natural methods for combating common garden pests like aphids and greenfly. Highlighting the destructive nature of these insects, which can suck sap from plants and cause leaves to curl, Ish presented several accessible solutions for home gardeners. One primary method involves a simple dish soap spray. "Take a few tablespoons of dish soap and pop it in a spray bottle, then top the rest off with some water," Ish explained. He noted that this solution effectively destroys the aphid's exoskeleton without harming the plants. Another strategy discussed is companion planting using fragrant deterrents. Ish recommended planting salvias, marigolds, onions, or garlic near infested plants. "They can't stand the smell," he stated, adding that marigolds can even act as "trap plants" to divert pests from more valuable plants. For persistent infestations, Ish suggested either blasting aphids off with a strong jet of water or introducing ladybugs. "You can buy ladybugs online, introduce them into your garden, they're great pollinators, but they're also the natural predator of aphids," he advised. These methods aim to keep gardens healthy and free from these common pests.
