Lawns will be ‘fragrant’ and ‘low-maintenance’ when ingredient is sprinkled
Garden designer Ish shared just how easy it is to create a beautifully fragrant garden by sprinkling a surprising food item this summer.
A recent online tutorial by gardening enthusiast "Gardening with Ish " has revealed a surprisingly simple and sustainable method for creating a fragrant chamomile lawn using common chamomile teabags. The video, uploaded on July 3, 2025, demonstrates how the flowers used in chamomile tea contain numerous seeds, making them a readily available and inexpensive source for planting. The host explains that chamomile lawns are gaining popularity due to their low maintenance, ability to be mowed, and pleasant aroma. He emphasizes their frost-hardy nature, ensuring they return year after year. The planting process is described as similar to sowing regular grass, requiring full sun and well-draining soil. Seeds are simply sprinkled directly onto the ground and watered regularly for the first few weeks. The tutorial also offers two maintenance options: regularly mowing the lawn to a height of two to three inches for a dense, fragrant carpet, or allowing it to grow wild to produce chamomile flowers. These flowers, once picked and dried, can then be used to brew homemade chamomile tea, closing the sustainable loop. This innovative approach offers a unique way for home gardeners to cultivate a beautiful and aromatic lawn while repurposing everyday items.
