Kazakhstan Busts Major Data Leak Ring, Arrests Telegram Admins
Kazakh authorities announced the dismantling of a significant criminal network engaged in the illegal trafficking of citizens' personal data. The operation, a joint effort by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) and the National Security Committee (KNB), resulted in the detention of over 140 suspects and the arrest of five key figures: the company owners and Telegram channel administrators. According to the head of the MVD's cybercrime department, Zhandos Suinbai, the group obtained data from state databases and sold it through Telegram, including to debt collection agencies. "The investigation is ongoing," Suinbai stated, "and we will continue to combat the illegal distribution of personal information." The raid yielded over 400 units of computer and electronic equipment. Criminal charges, including unauthorized access to information, violation of privacy, and unlawful distribution of restricted electronic resources, have been filed. The swift action demonstrates Kazakhstan's commitment to protecting its citizens' digital privacy and security.
