
Massive Fire Engulfs Sta. Cruz, Laguna Market
A major fire broke out in the market of Barangay Poblacion V, Sta. Cruz, Laguna, Philippines, at approximately 5:50 AM on May 23, 2025. The fire, which quickly escalated to a fourth alarm by 6:58 AM, caused widespread damage to numerous stalls and businesses. "The fire spread incredibly fast," reported a spokesperson for the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) CALABARZON. "We immediately raised the alarm to the fourth level to mobilize more resources." Drone footage obtained by GMA News shows the intensity of the blaze and the extensive destruction. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the authorities. While the extent of the damage is still being assessed, the incident highlights the vulnerability of densely populated market areas to rapid fire spread. The Sta. Cruz Municipal Police Station is assisting in the investigation and providing support to those affected.
