Filipino Students' Innovation: App and Smart Boat Revolutionize Flood Rescue
University of Caloocan Students Develop Innovative Flood Rescue System Caloocan City, Philippines – In a city frequently battling floods, a team of students from the University of Caloocan has developed a game-changing solution: a mobile app and a remote-controlled rescue boat. Their innovation, a Top 20 finalist in the recent APCON, promises to significantly improve flood rescue operations. The ARKO app streamlines the process of requesting assistance. "With just a few clicks, users can send an emergency request, including their location and the type of emergency," explains Martin Javier, a member of the development team. This allows for faster response times, crucial in life-threatening situations. Complementing the app is the ARKO boat, a remote-controlled vessel equipped with GPS, underwater sensors, and real-time communication features. "The boat's sensors detect people or animals stranded in the floodwaters, even at night," adds another team member. The built-in camera provides rescuers with a live view of the situation, allowing for more effective rescue strategies. The system is designed with multiple layers of response: a quick SOS button for urgent situations, and a more detailed emergency request form for non-urgent needs. The app also shows the location of nearby ARKO boats, ensuring the fastest possible response. The students' dedication and ingenuity offer a beacon of hope in the face of frequent flooding in the region.
