Facial Recognition Technology to Speed Up NAIA Passenger Flow
President Bongbong Marcos recently inspected the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in the Philippines, highlighting the upcoming implementation of facial recognition technology. This initiative aims to significantly reduce long queues and improve the passenger experience at one of Asia's busiest airports. The technology is expected to be operational within six months, according to officials. "We're trying to make life easier for them," said one official, referring to the reduced need for manual passport checks. Meanwhile, passengers expressed enthusiasm about the potential for faster processing times. Maria Catherine Pastera, an OFW, stated, "This is a big help for us OFWs, as it will make our travel easier." The improvements are part of a larger plan to modernize NAIA, including the construction of a new Terminal 5, which will increase the airport's capacity to 35 million passengers annually by 2026. This modernization is vital for the Philippines' image as a major gateway for tourists and overseas Filipino workers.
