SBU Warns of New Russian Recruitment Tactic Targeting Ukrainians
Ukraine's Security Service warns of a new Russian recruitment tactic. The SBU has recently observed an increase in attempts by Russian special services to recruit Ukrainian citizens by impersonating SBU officers. These individuals contact citizens via messenger apps, often offering assistance with closing criminal cases or other personal matters. In exchange for help, they request actions such as installing malicious software on phones, transferring money to unknown accounts, or even conducting acts of sabotage. "This is a dangerous tactic," said Artem Dekhtiarenko, SBU spokesperson, in a recent video message. "We urge citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious contact." The SBU has successfully prevented several such attempts in recent weeks and reminds citizens that they will never request such actions via messaging apps. They encourage reporting suspicious activity to the SBU hotline.
