Endometriosis: A Young Woman's Powerful Testimony on Chronic Pain and Self-Advocacy
Paris, France – Maï, a young woman, has shared her compelling story about living with endometriosis, shedding light on the often-debilitating condition that affects millions of women worldwide. In a recent video released by the French Government, Maï recounted experiencing severe menstrual pain from the age of 13, a discomfort she later learned was due to endometriosis. "My first pains, they go back to when I was 13, when I had my first period. I immediately felt bad," Maï stated. She described a frustrating journey where she was informed around the age of 15 or 16 that there was no existing remedy for her condition. Maï emphasized the constant nature of her pain, explaining, "On the space of a month, you have to tell yourself that you can have maybe 5 days of respite, and even then, because we're always in pain, because these are pains that remain in the end." Her testimony serves as a powerful call to action for women and young girls. Maï urged viewers, "If you feel that something is wrong with your periods, it's your body, you are the one who feels it. Listen to yourself." The video aims to raise awareness about endometriosis and encourage individuals to trust their instincts regarding their health, countering the common dismissal of severe menstrual pain as 'just your period'.
