Madrid, Spain – As the summer holiday season approaches, the Spanish Guardia Civil has released a public service announcement urging drivers and motorcyclists to prioritize safety on the roads. In a video statement, an officer highlighted several key recommendations aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring a smooth travel experience.Drivers are advised to avoid consuming heavy meals at least two hours before getting behind the wheel, as digestion can induce drowsiness, a risk exacerbated by warm weather. Furthermore, the Guardia Civil cautions against driving barefoot or wearing flip-flops, as this can impair control over the vehicle's pedals. For car occupants, driving shirtless is discouraged due to the risk of seatbelt burns in the event of a sudden stop or collision.Motorcyclists are also reminded of the importance of appropriate attire. The officer specifically warned against riding in T-shirts, shorts, skirts, flip-flops, or sandals, stressing that such clothing offers minimal protection against abrasions, contusions, and burns in case of a fall. The Guardia Civil concluded its message by emphasizing the collective responsibility for road safety. "Respect traffic rules, drive with safety, calmness, and a positive attitude," the officer stated, reiterating that road safety is everyone's responsibility.
