Así fue la última vida de la última reina de Gran Canaria
Su nombre, Abenchara Chambeneder, quedó sepultado por siglos de olvido, pero su vida fue puro coraje
Abenchara Chambeneder, a pivotal figure in the history of Gran Canaria, lived a life marked by significant events and unwavering resolve. Born in Gáldar around 1460, she was the daughter of Faicán Chambeneder and later married Tenesor Semidán, a union that granted him legitimacy to the Guanarteme title. During her pregnancy, Abenchara was captured by Pedro de Vera and transported to Castile under critical health conditions. She gave birth to her daughter, Catalina, in the Alcázar of Córdoba, where she remained for a year. It was also in this palace that Tenesor Semidán was baptized as Fernando Guanarteme. In October 1482, Abenchara and Fernando Guanarteme returned to Gran Canaria. However, Abenchara, disagreeing with the island's surrender, repudiated her husband and remarried. Shortly after, she was again apprehended and sent to Jerez de la Frontera, enduring eight years of captivity. Following her release, Abenchara moved to Tenerife, where she spent her final years. She passed away around 1540. Abenchara is remembered not just as the last Guayarmina of Gáldar, but as the last queen of Gran Canaria, her story a testament to her enduring spirit and resistance.
