Thessaloniki Unveils SmartPass Pedestrian Crossings for Enhanced Safety

The Municipality of Neapoli-Sykies in Thessaloniki has introduced an innovative SmartPass system at pedestrian crossings, aiming to enhance safety for residents. A recent video uploaded by a user showcases the system in action during nighttime hours. The SmartPass device, mounted on a pole near the crosswalk, activates upon a pedestrian's interaction. Once pressed, it emits an audible warning, advising individuals to 'Please cross the pedestrian crossing carefully.' Simultaneously, embedded lights along the crosswalk illuminate, providing clear visibility of the crossing path. The user, identifying as being from Serres, expressed admiration for this advanced urban technology, noting its absence in their own city. They commended the Municipality of Neapoli-Sykies for implementing such a forward-thinking solution.
