London, UK – October 18, 2025 – The European Union's new Entry-Exit System (EES) has officially commenced at London's St Pancras International station, introducing significant changes for British citizens traveling to the Schengen area. The system, which took effect on October 12, requires travelers to register their biometric data and answer a series of questions at self-service kiosks before proceeding to border control.A recent video report demonstrated the new process, showing a traveler scanning their passport, having their photo taken, and providing fingerprints. The reporter noted that passengers are also asked about proof of accommodation, return tickets, sufficient funds for their stay, and medical insurance. The inclusion of medical insurance as a mandatory query has raised particular concern. "This is a specific French government question," the reporter stated, highlighting that British citizens are typically covered by the UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC).While the initial kiosk interaction registers travelers in a central database, the process does not conclude there. For the first six months of implementation, British travelers will still be required to present their passports to a French border officer for manual inspection and stamping, leading to what the reporter termed "double red tape." This dual process is anticipated to cause increased delays and potential confusion for travelers accustomed to simpler procedures. The new system aims to enhance border security and streamline travel for non-EU citizens, but its initial rollout suggests a period of adjustment for both authorities and passengers.
