ZAGREB, Croatia - Tourists visiting Zagreb are sharing their favorite Croatian culinary delights, offering a fresh perspective on the country's diverse food scene. In recent street interviews conducted by Index.hr, visitors from around the world highlighted dishes that left a lasting impression. One tourist enthusiastically praised 'Burek with cheese,' emphasizing her vegetarian preference. Another visitor expressed a fondness for 'Ćevapi and Sarma,' acknowledging their Balkan origins but still appreciating them as part of the local experience. "It's not really Croatian, but it's more like Balkan, but I still love that, like Sarma and Ćevapi with kajmak," she stated. A couple from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, shared their positive experience with 'Ćevapi' served in bread, describing them as "pretty good." The woman from the couple also surprisingly enjoyed 'fried calamari,' despite not typically liking fish, remarking, "It was delicious, and I don't even like fish." Coffee also received high praise. One interviewee described Croatian coffee as "very strong, very thick." Italian tourists offered a nuanced view on Croatian pizza, stating, "In some places we like it, but also in Italy not all the places do the best pizza ever, so even in Croatia there are a lot of places that can do pizza." They added, "And the french fries are so much better here, by the way." These diverse opinions underscore Croatia's growing reputation as a culinary destination, offering a range of flavors that appeal to international palates.
