Remembering Pivska Dola: 82 Years After a Massacre Shook Montenegro
On June 7, 1943, the small Montenegrin village of Pivska Dola became the site of unspeakable horror. German forces, specifically the Prince Eugen and Handžar divisions, carried out a massacre that claimed the lives of 522 innocent civilians, 109 of whom were children. This tragedy, largely forgotten, is brought back into focus in a recent video commemorating the 82nd anniversary of the event. The video includes an interview with Branislav Blagojević, whose family was directly impacted by the massacre. "They just told us, 'Get out,'" Blagojević recalls, his voice heavy with the weight of the memories. The chilling simplicity of his words underscores the brutality of the event. The video provides a powerful visual representation of the memorial site, a stark reminder of the lives lost. The commemoration event, organized by the Plužine municipality and the Budimljansko-Nikšićka Eparchy, also included the presence of several ministers, highlighting the ongoing importance of remembering this dark chapter in Montenegrin history. The video serves as a poignant call for remembrance and a testament to the resilience of the community that continues to honor the victims.
