Podgorica Mulls Hike in Tow Truck Fees: Will It Curb Illegal Parking?
Podgorica Considers Increasing Tow Truck Prices: A Necessary Measure or Added Burden for Drivers? Podgorica, Montenegro – The capital city is considering a significant increase in the cost of towing illegally parked vehicles. Currently, the price is set at €60, but the proposal to raise it is backed by Branko Kovačević, director of the Inspectorate for Inspection Affairs. Kovačević argues that the increase is necessary due to rising operational costs and the need to expand the tow truck service's workforce. "We've recently acquired two new tow trucks and repaired three others," Kovačević said in an interview featured in the video. "We currently have seven tow trucks, with six in active use. This increase in our capacity necessitates additional staffing, and the price adjustment reflects these increased operational expenses." However, the proposed increase has divided public opinion. Some citizens interviewed expressed skepticism, suggesting that the price hike won't significantly deter illegal parking. One resident commented, "I don't think it will change much. The problem is more about the lack of parking spaces, not the price." Others, however, see the increase as a potential solution to Podgorica's persistent parking problems, hoping it will encourage drivers to park more responsibly. The city's commitment to addressing the issue through both price adjustments and the construction of new parking spaces suggests a multi-faceted approach to improving traffic flow and reducing congestion. The city council is expected to vote on the proposal in the coming weeks.
