An engineer from 'Ingeniería Para Ti' recently conducted an inspection of a residential property, revealing alarming structural deficiencies that pose an immediate risk to its inhabitants. The expert highlighted a 15-meter long brick wall that conspicuously lacks essential structural columns, a critical component for seismic stability. "This house could collapse instantly," stated the engineer during the inspection, emphasizing the danger, particularly in the event of an earthquake. He noted that the multi-story structure, which includes several brick floors and an additional drywall floor, is built with 'pandereta' bricks, which are not suitable for such long, unsupported spans. The engineer advised the homeowner to formally report the hazardous construction to the municipality. "You should file a complaint with the municipality so it remains on record, documenting the type of construction that has been carried out," he recommended. The property, reportedly built just two years ago, has not yet been regularized, further complicating its legal and safety status. This incident underscores the urgent need for stringent adherence to building codes and proper regulatory oversight to prevent potentially catastrophic structural failures.
