ZATOKA, Ukraine – Following a recent tragedy where two individuals were injured by a mine, the beaches of Zatoka in Odesa Oblast remain closed, with extensive warnings and fortifications in place. A local resident documented the current situation on August 11, 2025, showing numerous signs explicitly prohibiting swimming and beach access due to the presence of anti-landing mines. The signs, prominently displayed on fences leading to the beach, feature diagrams of mines and detail past incidents, reminding the public of the severe risks. "ATTENTION! IMPORTANT INFORMATION! SWIMMING IN THE SEA IS FORBIDDEN! ANTI-LANDING MINES IN THE WATER!" one sign reads, while another illustrates the danger of underwater explosions. In addition to the signage, concrete anti-tank barriers, often referred to as "hedgehogs," line the coastline, forming a physical deterrent to beach entry. The resident noted that locals are aware of the dangers and refrain from swimming, opting only to sunbathe in designated safe areas. Despite the clear warnings and physical obstacles, concerns persist that some individuals may still attempt to bypass the restrictions, risking their lives. Authorities continue to urge the public to adhere to all safety regulations to prevent further casualties.
