Warsaw, Poland – A recent video by psychologist and speech therapist Adrianna Dzięgielewska, known as 'InstrukcjaObslugiDziecka', sheds light on the profound differences between modern and classic children's animations and their potential effects on developing brains. Dzięgielewska highlights that today's popular cartoons, exemplified by titles like 'Paw Patrol', feature rapid scene changes, intense colors, and loud sound effects. "This acts like fast food for a child's brain," she states, explaining that such content triggers a significant release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward. In contrast, older animations, which she describes as having been slower-paced with calmer visuals and music played on real instruments, provided a less intense sensory experience. "When a child watches modern animations with such a large amount of stimuli, an enormous amount of dopamine is released in their brain," Dzięgielewska explains. "The problem is that the brain quickly adapts to this." As a result, children accustomed to this high level of stimulation find traditional activities like playing with toys, reading books, or engaging in conversation to be dull and uninteresting. The expert notes that teachers frequently observe these changes, reporting that contemporary children often struggle with concentration, exhibit irritability, and quickly become bored. "It's not about children not being able to watch cartoons," Dzięgielewska clarifies. "It's about not just turning on the first popular content you find, but choosing wisely." Dzięgielewska emphasizes the importance of conscious media consumption for children, urging parents to prioritize their child's healthy development by making informed choices about screen time and content.
