Una estudiante del Grado explica cómo consiguió entrar a la universidad ella misma y algunos de sus compañeros
Madrid, Spain - For aspiring medical students in Spain facing the competitive 'Selectividad' university entrance exams, there are multiple pathways to pursue their dreams, even if initial scores fall short. Isabel Cintas, a fifth-year medical student, recently shared valuable insights into these alternative routes. Cintas, who herself gained entry to medicine through a private university after not meeting the public university cutoff, highlighted several strategies. One common approach involves enrolling in a private university, often requiring a strong high school academic record and a separate entrance exam. She also noted the availability of scholarships in private institutions, which can significantly reduce costs, particularly for students with academic honors. Another viable option discussed is starting a related degree, such as nursing, for a year and then seeking a transfer to medicine. "I know people who have done this and are now graduating in my course, being from my year," Cintas stated, emphasizing that this path can allow students to catch up with their peers. Similarly, completing a higher vocational training cycle (Ciclo Superior) like pathological anatomy, and then taking specific university entrance exams (Biology and Chemistry), can also lead to medical school admission. For those determined to enter a public university, repeating the 'Selectividad' exam to improve scores remains an option. Cintas also mentioned studying medicine abroad in countries with more accessible university admissions, with the intention of transferring back to a Spanish university after a few years. "It's never too late to start medicine if it's truly your passion," she concluded, offering encouragement to students navigating this challenging academic journey.
