The incident unfolded around 1:15 am, prompting over 20 emergency calls to the London Fire Brigade. Eight fire engines and 70 firefighters responded to the scene, battling a "well-developed fire" that affected two three-story terraced houses. While firefighters in breathing apparatus managed to rescue a woman and a child from the second floor of one property, tragically, three children (aged 4, 8, and 15) and a 43-year-old woman perished. A 70-year-old woman and a teenage girl were also rescued and taken to the hospital, their conditions currently unknown. Adding to the tragedy, a 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene and remains in custody. The fire was brought under control around 3:40 am, but investigations into the cause are ongoing. The incident has shocked residents of this typically quiet residential area. Police have not yet released further details on the investigation.
