Husband's Agonizing Account: Listening to Wife's Murder Unfold Over the Phone
In a deeply emotional interview, Dan Cross shared the harrowing details of the night his wife, Nikki, was tragically murdered, an event he was forced to witness remotely over a phone call. Mr. Cross recounted receiving a panicked call from Nikki, who reported a man "kicking and punching our car" outside their home. Despite her immediate call to the police, Mr. Cross stated that "they were quite rude to me," questioning why the man was talking about her children and ultimately releasing the individual.Hours later, Nikki called again, expressing fear as she heard "banging again" and worried the man had returned, angry that she had contacted the police. Mr. Cross described the terrifying escalation: "I heard Nikki actually say, you know, 'What do you want, get out of my house!'" He then heard screams and sounds of a struggle, followed by an eerie silence on the line. "I started to lose control a little bit because they weren't listening to me, and I could hear what was going on on the other line, which was horrendous," he stated, referring to the police.The silence was broken only by the sound of his young children, aged six and three, crying. "I knew they were alive at least," he said, but the children's desperate pleas, "Mummy, wake up," and "Why has this happened to our family?" confirmed his worst fears. The call ended with the devastating news from the police: "I ’m sorry, Mr. Cross, to tell you your wife has died." Mr. Cross described collapsing in grief, "sobbing my heart out," as the reality of the tragedy sank in.
