A recent video by mechanic Juanjo Jimenez has shed light on the Omoda 5, one of the most popular Chinese cars currently sold in Spain. Jimenez provides an in-depth technical review, examining both the engine compartment and the undercarriage of the vehicle. He highlights the car's 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, which produces 145 horsepower, features four cylinders, and utilizes a chain distribution system. "Here we find elements like the engine control unit, which is Bosch," Jimenez noted, emphasizing the use of recognized component brands. During the undercarriage inspection, Jimenez pointed out "quite a few quality controls" on the rear axle, with all bolts and nuts marked, and praised the robust attachment of the rear axle to the chassis. He also observed "good thermal insulation" for the fuel tank and an accessible gasoline particulate filter, stating, "This car, for mechanics, is quite pleasant." A significant point of discussion was the car's design for maintenance. Jimenez enthusiastically declared, "This car for doing maintenance is excellent!" He demonstrated the easy accessibility of the oil pan plug, oil filter, starter motor, and air conditioning compressor, all "super easy to access." He added, "The mechanic's bill in the future, in terms of labor, will be more economical." Inside the vehicle, Jimenez mentioned the removal of a "sport mode" feature that previously simulated a V8 engine sound through the speakers. "That option has disappeared because it seems our Chinese friends have said that wasn't for us, that we like the real sound," he quipped. Concluding his review, Jimenez addressed the aging Spanish car fleet, which averages around 15 years. He asserted that brands like Omoda, with their competitive pricing, are "solving that problem." He strongly recommended the Omoda 5, saying, "If you are thinking of buying a new car, from the bottom of my heart, I tell you: buy an Omoda 5." Public reaction in the comments section was mixed, with some questioning fuel consumption and long-term reliability, while others praised the value proposition and the increasing quality of Chinese manufacturing.
