Madrid, Spain – Automotive expert Juanjo Jimenez, known as 'Juanjo Jimenez mecánico' on social media, recently shed light on a prevalent issue affecting many diesel engines, particularly those with HDI technology. In a detailed instructional video, Jimenez demonstrated how a common problem involving injector seals can lead to significant carbon buildup and engine performance issues. The mechanic explained that the constant heating and cooling cycles of a diesel engine cause the injector's securing stud to expand and contract. Over time, this process can stretch the stud, allowing the injector to slightly lift from its seat. As a result, combustion gases escape past the injector, depositing carbon around it and within the engine bay. Jimenez showcased a heavily carbonized injector, illustrating the extent of the damage that can occur. "This is a very common problem in the majority of diesel engines," Jimenez stated in his video, holding up a damaged injector. "If left unaddressed, this carbon buildup can lead to much more expensive repairs down the line." He presented a specialized repair kit, highlighting its components, including new washers, seals, and dust covers, as a relatively economical solution to the issue. Jimenez emphasized the importance of early detection and timely repair to prevent the carbon from completely encasing the injectors, which can complicate removal and significantly increase repair costs. The video serves as a practical guide for vehicle owners and aspiring mechanics on how to identify and rectify this widespread diesel engine fault.
