Weeds will be killed 'at the root' if you use 3-ingredient spray
Weeds can quickly take over your garden, but using one DIY spray with just three common ingredients could kill them 'at the root' so they never come …
A gardening enthusiast, known online as Joesgarden, has shared a simple and effective DIY solution for controlling unwanted weeds in patios and pathways. The homemade spray utilizes common household ingredients: distilled vinegar, table salt, and dish soap. According to Joesgarden, for every 1 liter of distilled vinegar (no stronger than 5% acidity), two teaspoons of salt and approximately half a teaspoon of dish soap are needed. The mixture should be thoroughly combined in a spray bottle. "This mixture essentially dehydrates the weed, which in turn can cause the foliage and sometimes the root to die back," Joesgarden explained. He emphasized that the spray should be used on sunny days for optimal dehydration and advised against applying it to soil, as it can impact future plants and alter soil acidity. Caution was also urged regarding windy conditions to prevent drift onto desired plants. For those hesitant about using the spray, Joesgarden offered an alternative: pouring boiling water directly over the weeds. While effective, he noted that the DIY spray tends to be slightly better at reaching the plant's roots, preventing regrowth.
