Mahama Announces Payment of Trainees' Allowances in Ghana
Ghanaian President John Mahama addressed the long-standing issue of unpaid allowances for nursing and teacher trainees. Speaking at a public event, he stated, "The Minister has made adequate provision in the budget for the payment of allowances." He explained that a new system is being implemented to ensure timely payment through the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, starting in January 2025. This means trainees will receive their monthly allowances promptly. The President also confirmed that arrears will be paid from January onward. A trainee present at the event expressed relief, saying, "This is great news; we've been waiting so long for this." The announcement is a significant step towards addressing the financial concerns of many aspiring healthcare professionals and educators in Ghana.
