Ghana's EPA Opens New District Office in Ketu North to Combat Plastic Waste A new district office of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was recently opened in Ketu North, Ghana. The event, held on June 5th, 2025, was attended by government officials, community leaders, and students. The launch signifies a step towards decentralizing EPA operations and improving environmental regulations at a local level. Professor Nana Ama Klucher, the EPA's Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the agency's commitment to reducing plastic waste. "We want to reduce plastic waste in the country because they harm the environment. They are not easily degradable," she stated. The EPA plans to implement a comprehensive waste management and recycling plan to address this issue. Adam Agbana, Member of Parliament for Ketu North, highlighted the significance of the new office. "With this office being the very first district office for the EPA, it's an honor that we are putting in motion a vision that will yield enormous benefits to the people of Ketu North and to Ghana as well." He also noted the previous challenges faced by residents in obtaining building permits due to the distance to existing EPA offices. The event also featured a symbolic tree planting ceremony, representing a commitment to environmental sustainability. The new office will play a vital role in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable practices in the Ketu North Municipality.
