Spanish Labor Lawyer Reveals 3 Little-Known Employee Rights
Madrid, Spain – A Spanish labor lawyer, Juanma Lorente, has highlighted three often-overlooked rights that could benefit workers across the country. In a recent online video, Lorente, known for his accessible explanations of labor law, detailed provisions that allow employees more flexibility and financial security. One key right discussed is the ability to request an 'adelanto,' or an advance on one's salary, before the regular payday. This provision, enshrined in the Workers' Statute, allows employees to receive a portion of their earned wages mid-month, providing financial flexibility when needed. Lorente also shed light on the 'permiso de fuerza mayor,' a paid leave for urgent family matters. This right permits workers to be absent from their jobs for up to four days annually in cases of medical emergencies or accidents involving close family members, ensuring they can attend to critical situations without loss of pay. Finally, the lawyer clarified a common misconception regarding vacation periods. He emphasized that vacation days must commence on a working day, meaning employers cannot count weekends as part of an employee's official vacation entitlement. This ensures workers receive their full allotted time off for rest and recuperation. Lorente encouraged workers to be aware of these rights and to claim them if their employers fail to acknowledge them, stressing the importance of knowing one's entitlements in the workplace.
