American Veteran Transforms 5,000-Euro Balkan House, Embracing Off-Grid Living
An American, known as 'Amerikanac' online, is undertaking an ambitious project to transform a 5,000-euro house in rural Croatia into his dream home. In the latest installment of his popular online series, he details the extensive cleanup of the property, which was previously filled with debris and overgrown vegetation. Working alongside a local neighbor, who provided a tractor, the content creator meticulously cleared the interior of the small house, removing old furniture and carpet. The exterior required significant effort to remove years of overgrowth, with collected waste being disposed of in a controlled burn in a designated area, a common practice in the region. Living off-grid, the author shared insights into his daily life, including sourcing water from a nearby well and using wet wipes for personal hygiene. He charges his phone using a portable solar panel. The American, who previously served four years in the US Army before moving to Europe, highlighted his extensive training as a factor in his adaptability to these conditions. He currently owns the house and approximately 5,000 square meters of land, with significant work still ahead to fully clear the property and begin the main renovation phase.
