Why one mum is saying no to the ‘fun mom’ pressure
Kayla Masse isn’t showing up to be the 'fun mom' at summer playdates, and she’s completely okay with that.
In a recent viral video, a mother of three, Kayla, shared her candid perspective on summer outings, emphasizing the critical importance of child supervision. Standing in what appeared to be her laundry room, folding children's clothes and towels, Kayla explained why she doesn't consider herself the 'fun mom' at beach trips or pool parties. 'If you want to go to the ocean, that's great, I'm going to be counting heads the whole time,' she stated. She highlighted a common pitfall in group settings: the assumption that someone else is watching the children. 'When there's a big group of people around, everyone assumes that somebody has eyes on the kids. And when that assumption is made, nobody has eyes on the kids because everybody's assuming that somebody else is doing it,' Kayla explained. She firmly asserted her role, saying, 'I will be watching my kids. I am not hanging out at the tent with you, having a good conversation. I am down by the water, counting kids, making sure everybody's having good, safe fun.' Her message resonates with many parents who understand the constant vigilance required to ensure children's safety during recreational activities. Kayla concluded by stating that while she will still have a good time, her primary focus will always be on parenting.

“Some parents get offended if someone else steps in, but it’s necessary sometimes."
