Cracker Barrel Employees Allege Job Cuts, Reduced Hours, and Declining Food Quality Amid Rebrand A recent social media video has brought to light serious concerns from current Cracker Barrel employees regarding the company's rebrand and leadership changes. The video features a woman, identified as Kari, sharing an anonymous statement from a staff member, detailing the alleged negative impacts of the new CEO, who took office in 2023. According to the anonymous employee, the CEO has implemented significant cost-cutting measures, including the layoff of "many of her long-term loyal employees" and the elimination of "backup cooks and prep cooks who freshly cooked our country homemade food." This has reportedly led to a decline in food quality, with the employee stating, "Now our food is like fast food. It's all frozen and in a bag off of a truck." The employee also claims that staff hours have been drastically cut, with many now struggling to get more than 20 hours a week, down from a previous 40 hours. "They make sure you don't get over 32 hours a week so they don't have to offer you health insurance," the statement reads, highlighting the financial strain on workers. Long-term employees, some with over 35 years of service, reportedly state they have "never seen it this bad." Furthermore, the video mentions a "gag order" imposed on employees, preventing them from discussing the store or company negatively on social media, with the threat of job loss. The manager allegedly showed employees a paper outlining this policy. Kari, the video's creator, emphasized the broader impact of these changes, stating, "This doesn't just impact people who are just choosing not to go to the store, this is people who have jobs and families to feed and bills to pay." The situation has sparked calls for a boycott among some consumers, while others debate whether to support the company for the sake of its struggling employees. The future of Cracker Barrel's brand and its workforce remains a point of contention and concern.
