Alen Muhić: "I Just Wanted to Look into the Eyes of the Man Who Raped My Biological Mother"
Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina – In a poignant interview, Alen Muhić shared his profound desire to confront the individual responsible for the rape of his biological mother during the war. Muhić, whose story highlights the enduring trauma and complex pursuit of justice for victims of wartime sexual violence, revealed details of his legal journey. "I just wanted to look into the eyes of the man who raped my biological mother, who actually created me," Muhić stated. He further elaborated on the court proceedings, noting that while the man admitted to being his biological father, he consistently denied the act of rape. "He never admitted rape, let's be clear," Muhić emphasized. "But he admitted me as a child, and that was an acquittal, unfortunately, second instance, because the judge changed and the entire prosecution that charged him, they changed, and so that first instance verdict changed." When asked if he considers the man a criminal, Muhić firmly responded, "He is always for me a war criminal and always will remain one." Muhić's powerful testimony underscores the ongoing struggle for accountability and recognition faced by survivors and their descendants years after the conflict. His pursuit of truth, despite legal setbacks, reflects a broader societal need for justice and healing in post-conflict regions.
