Madrid, Spain – A prominent labor lawyer, known online as 'Un Tío Legal,' has recently highlighted eight prevalent labor abuses in Spanish companies, urging employees to be aware of their rights. The lawyer detailed common issues ranging from the non-payment or delayed payment of salaries to more complex forms of exploitation. Among the most frequently reported abuses are the non-payment or delay of wages, often seen in SMEs and precarious sectors. He also pointed out illegal deductions from paychecks and the widespread issue of unpaid overtime, particularly in hospitality, retail, and logistics, where employees are often expected to work additional hours without compensation. Contract fraud is another significant concern, with companies frequently using temporary contracts for permanent roles, classifying employees as 'false self-employed,' or offering part-time contracts for full-time work. The lawyer also addressed unjustified dismissals, where employees are deceived into signing voluntary resignations, losing their right to severance and unemployment benefits. Furthermore, the expert warned against undeclared work, which strips employees of crucial labor rights and access to social security benefits like sick leave, disability, and unemployment. Workplace harassment, though less visible, is a growing problem, manifesting as isolation, psychological pressure, disqualifications, or excessive workloads intended to force resignation. He emphasized the importance of initiating harassment protocols and filing complaints. Finally, the lawyer highlighted violations of family reconciliation rights and the failure to respect mandatory rest periods and holidays. He stressed that denying these rights or manipulating vacation entitlements, especially for part-time workers, is illegal. The lawyer urged all workers to be vigilant and seek legal advice if they suspect any of these abuses.
