In a Polish primary school, a unique approach to sex education has been implemented. Ania Laskowska-Peters, a former teacher, shared her experience of teaching sex education (WDŻ) in her class. She noticed that boys often reacted with laughter and discomfort when they saw girls carrying sanitary pads. "It was as if the topic of menstruation was something shameful and hidden," she explained. To tackle this, Laskowska-Peters decided to show the boys a sanitary pad, explaining its function and normalizing the topic of menstruation. This initiative was well received by the parents, who supported the teacher's direct and open approach to sex education. The school's principal was also supportive, recognizing the importance of demystifying such topics for young children. This experience underscores the need for open and honest conversations about menstruation in schools, helping to break down taboos and promote a more inclusive learning environment.
