Sheinbaum Rejects "Adversary" Label for Mexico, Cites Strong US Security Ties
Mexico's President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum has publicly refuted former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi's assertion that Mexico should be considered an "adversary country" to the United States. Speaking from a public address, Sheinbaum stated, "She is not very informed, the truth." Sheinbaum elaborated that a communiqué would soon be released regarding a recent visit by Mexico's Secretary of Defense and Navy to the U.S. Northern Command. This visit, she explained, was in reciprocity for a visit from the U.S. Northern Command to Santa Gertrudis in Chihuahua, Mexico, several weeks prior. "There is a lot of coordination," Sheinbaum affirmed, adding that Mexico and the United States are "about to close an agreement on security" stemming from their first meeting in Washington in February. She underscored that all ongoing collaborations are conducted "always within the framework of the sovereignty of each country and in respect between the two governments." Her remarks highlight Mexico's commitment to maintaining a cooperative and respectful relationship with the United States, despite differing views on bilateral status.
