Michoacán Rocked by Cartel Attacks and Road Blockades After Key Arrest
Michoacán, Mexico – A new wave of violence has gripped the Tierra Caliente region of Michoacán following attacks by elements of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the subsequent arrest of a high-profile cartel figure. In Buenavista, municipal police faced a direct assault, which tragically resulted in the death of one officer and injuries to two others. This marks the fifth attack on Buenavista police this year. In a related development, authorities in Michoacán successfully apprehended Cirilo Sepúlveda Arellano, known as 'El Capi,' along with his escort, identified as 'Cervando.' 'El Capi' is reportedly the brother of César Sepúlveda, alias 'El Botox,' a leader of 'Los Blancos de Troya,' a criminal group identified as an armed wing of the CJNG. 'Los Blancos de Troya' are linked to drug trafficking, homicides, and extortion, particularly targeting lime growers and merchants. The arrests triggered immediate retaliatory actions, with narco-blockades reported on two significant roadways. One blockade was established on the Pátzcuaro-Aguililla highway near the community of Zenobio Moreno. Another was reported on the Santa Ana-Pinzándaro road, in the locality of Zimanca, within the municipality of Buenavista, causing significant disruption to traffic and local communities.
