Son of Tamaulipas Governor Under Scrutiny for Million-Peso Private Flight Spending
MEXICO CITY – A recent investigation by Proceso magazine, highlighted by Latinus, has revealed that Américo Villarreal Santiago, son of Tamaulipas Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya, spent an estimated one million pesos on 25 private flights over a two-month period. This expenditure occurred while Villarreal Jr. was serving as a delegate for social programs in Coahuila. The report indicates that Villarreal Santiago, whose official monthly salary is 100,000 pesos, frequently utilized private aircraft. When questioned, he acknowledged using private planes but asserted that these expenses were covered by his personal funds. He further claimed that the reported costs of the flights were inflated and that he possesses additional income from agricultural and livestock activities. This revelation comes shortly after President Claudia Sheinbaum issued a letter to members of the Morena party on May 4, urging them to conduct themselves with humility and simplicity. In her communication, Sheinbaum explicitly stated that traveling in private planes or helicopters was not in line with the movement's principles.
