President Sheinbaum Cites Benito Juárez on Civil Government and International Respect
Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum today underscored the importance of a civil government and invoked the enduring legacy of Benito Juárez García during a public address. Speaking from a podium, President Sheinbaum stated, "The government has to be a civil government." She went on to praise "extraordinary Mexicans" who advanced this idea, singling out Juárez, an Indigenous Zapotec, as "the Benemérito of the Americas, who is a global example." The President recalled her recent visit to Canada for the G7 summit, where she reiterated Juárez's profound maxim: "Among individuals, as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace." She emphasized, "That is Mexico, that is the essence of our country." The audience responded with applause, acknowledging her remarks on national identity and international conduct.
