La mujer explica cómo se sentía en la misma situación al estar en su país y lo compara con lo que pasa en España
A Colombian vlogger, Lau Vargas, recently shared her personal experience of walking as a woman in Madrid, Spain, highlighting significant cultural differences compared to her home country. In a video posted on September 18, 2025, Vargas described an initial "strange" feeling upon moving to Madrid, noting the absence of unsolicited compliments or catcalls that are commonplace in her native Santa Marta, Colombia. "In Colombia, it's super common that you walk down the street and people say things to you. 'Oh, how pretty,' 'oh, this,' 'oh, that,' no matter who you are," Vargas stated. She explained that she eventually realized this difference was rooted in respect. "It's very comfortable that I can dress however I literally want, and nothing happens here," she affirmed, contrasting it with past experiences where men on motorcycles or bicycles would "grab your butt and keep going." Vargas described such incidents as "horrible and disgusting" and expressed her appreciation for the newfound sense of freedom and safety in Madrid. She concluded that the ability to dress without fear of judgment or unwanted attention feels "enchanting, liberating, and spectacular." Her account sheds light on varying cultural norms regarding public interactions and women's autonomy.
