Madrid Couple Finds Sanctuary in Galicia for 100 Rescued Animals
A sanctuary for nearly 100 rescued animals has been established in Vilalba, Lugo, Spain, by a couple from Madrid. José Benito and Mery Nieto, driven by their compassion for animals, left the city to create a haven for animals rescued from neglect and abuse. "We left Madrid because it was impossible to continue our work there," Mery explains, highlighting the challenges they faced in the city. Their sanctuary provides a peaceful environment for animals such as sheep, cows, and horses. One remarkable story is that of Lucas, a calf saved from euthanasia just hours after birth. "The vet called us because he was a healthy calf with a bright future," José recalls. Another cow, Tele, rescued from starvation, now thrives alongside her son Unai. Mery adds, "Seeing them recover and be happy and free fills your heart." The sanctuary showcases the power of compassion and the transformative impact of giving animals a second chance at life. Their dedication inspires hope and highlights the importance of animal welfare.
