French Deputy Uncovers Harsh Realities Inside Immigration Detention Center
Paris, France – A French Deputy recently visited an administrative detention center, shedding light on the conditions faced by undocumented immigrants held before potential expulsion. The visit highlighted concerns regarding the treatment of individuals who, despite having lived and worked in France for years, find themselves detained. During the visit, one detainee, who wished to remain anonymous, spoke out about his experience. "I have never committed a crime here in France. I have always been a worker," he stated, expressing profound frustration. "I've been here for 33 days. I feel like I'm being treated like an animal, not a criminal." He questioned the lack of proper medical or psychological support for detainees, emphasizing that such individuals should be in a hospital or under psychiatric care if they are ill, not in a detention center. The video footage from inside the facility revealed stark living conditions, including small rooms with bunk beds and visible signs of disrepair, such as dirty ceilings. The Deputy observed the environment and listened to the detainees' testimonies, underscoring the ongoing debate surrounding immigration policies and the human rights implications of administrative detention.
