Siaya Lags in SHA Registration: Governor Orengo Explains Why
President Ruto's visit to Siaya County highlighted a significant disparity in SHA registration numbers. Governor Orengo, in a candid discussion, revealed that Siaya's lower registration numbers were a direct result of his initial opposition to the program. "Siaya is not among the top in SHA registration because initially I was against it!" Orengo stated. While the county has registered 163 facilities out of 175, the registration rate remains below 50% of the total population of approximately 900,000. The Governor also shared figures on claims and payments made under the SHA scheme, indicating 281 million in claims and 180 million in payments. This highlights the need for increased awareness and participation in the program to ensure equitable access to healthcare services across all counties in Kenya. The event underscores the ongoing challenges in implementing national programs at the county level, and the importance of addressing local concerns to achieve national goals.
